Tapestry has been a staple of the York region music scene for over 30 years. We are a group of singers with a love of music and a desire to share that with our community. We offer at least 3 concerts a year and we collaborate with a variety of other musical groups to keep choral music alive.

Our History
Founded in 1988, Tapestry Chamber Choir, has developed into an exciting cultural gem for York Region. The continuing goal is to provide professional level performances of choral music for the enjoyment of its audiences. Tapestry is a close-knit group of musicians who enjoy weaving musical tapestries from many cultures and eras. While a capella works are the mainstay of the choir, Tapestry also performs with piano, organ or orchestral accompaniment. Tapestry continues this fine tradition of providing exceptional choral music for our audiences.

Mr. Robert Hennig
Robert Hennig, B. Mus., P.G. (Honours), graduated from the University of Toronto with a Music degree and a post graduate diploma in Music with Honours. Studies have taken him to scholarship appointments for UCLA at Berkley and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. He has won the Toronto Kopaz Foundation award and the Canadian Opera Women’s Society award for excellence in music. He attended the Banff School of Fine Arts and completed advanced choral studies with Canadian choral icon, Elmer Iseler and R Murray Schafer. Mr. Hennig is a keyboard as well as a strings specialist. Orchestral conducting is a passion of his and he has conducted such works as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, as well as Requiems by Puccini, Faure and Rutter. He is the director of the Tapestry Chamber Choir which has an enviable reputation for excellence and quality in York Region. He has performed in Haydn Hall in the Esterhazy Palace in Vienna, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and conducted a Mass choir in Rome at St. Peter’s Basilica. In February 2014, Mr. Hennig had his Carnegie Hall debut in New York City and in the summer of 2018 he toured Wales with the Great Lakes’ Touring Chorus and a Men’s Choir in Wales.

The Tapestry Chamber Choir in Newmarket is an auditioned choir providing excellence in music to York Region and surrounding areas. We are on the hunt for rich, resonant Basses and soaring Tenors to join our dynamic group. Whether you’re a seasoned choral veteran or a passionate vocalist ready to take the next step, we want to hear the depth of your sound.
What We Offer
3 Professional‑grade performances per year – from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions and familiar favorites
Regular rehearsals – Sundays 7 pm–9 pm, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Newmarket
Expert direction – led by Robert Hennig, B.Mus., P.G.(honours),conductor and vocal coach.
Supportive and welcoming community – a tight‑knit, fun group of dedicated singers who lift each other to new heights.
Who Should Apply
Basses and Tenors with solid technique, strong pitch, and a love for blending within a choral texture.
Able to read standard notation and maintain regular attendance to rehearsals and performances.
Open to constructive feedback and eager to grow artistically.
Audition Details
Auditions will be held after a 3 – 4 week trial period.
