Trevor Dearham

Musical Director

Trevor Dearham is currently a doctoral (DMA) student in choral conducting at the University of Toronto under the guidance of Dr. Hilary Apfelstad. At the Faculty of Music, Trevor is the assistant conductor of the MacMillan Singers. Last spring, he completed his master’s degree in choral conducting, also at the University of Toronto. As part of his graduate university work, Trevor also studies orchestral conducting with Maestro Uri Mayer of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and wind band conducting with Dr. Gillian MacKay. In June 2015, Trevor retired as the Head of Music at Dr. Denison Secondary school in Newmarket where he taught instrumental and vocal music for twenty-five years since the school opened. He holds bachelors’ degrees in music and education from Western University. Trevor has conducted several concerts with the York Chamber Ensemble and Festival Chorus over the last two concert seasons. In 2014, Trevor was the only Canadian conductor invited to participate in a North American Fellowship Program with Alice Parker, a world-renowned choral conductor, author, arranger and composer from Massachusetts. He has also been the guest conductor for the former York Region District School Board Staff Singers along with the York Chamber Ensemble on several occasions. Trevor is thrilled to be working with the members of the Tapestry Chamber Choir as their artistic director.

Tapestry Chamber Choir
31 years of offering quality choral music to York Region  Founded in 1988, Tapestry Chamber Choir has developed into an exciting cultural gem for Newmarket, Aurora, and the surrounding area. The name Tapestry evokes the essence of this close-knit group of choral musicians as the choir has always aspired to create ‘weavings of song’ with rich colours and textures, while remaining free to explore the artistry of any composer of any period. Tapestry enjoys singing a cappella, but just as much they welcome opportunities to perform with instrumentalists. Many of these instrumentalists come from within our own local community.
